Ok well I’ve been holding off on this and I’m not giving my whole sob story because I don’t have time nor the patience. But, OPPO has been really significant in my life like many of you. I may not be an OG, or well known, but I’ve here a while and I’ve participated as much as I was able. Here’s a quick list of Oppo Impact:

I bought my 14' Cayman S because of OPPO. I saw all the passion and love for cars you guys have and had only ever been happy with what I had, not in love. There’s been ups and downs but I love this car forever.

I took part in the Half-Massed Rally. One of the best things I’ve ever done, let alone in this hobby. Steve is amazing, and though my co-driver and I were a bit too introverted to actually talk to people I felt included. 4th place!

I started wrenching on my Cayman to save money but got help and was assured that I could do it by Oppo. I’d done ele c trical stuff, and exhaust and intake installs since high school, but I’ve always been ashamed of being an engineer that didn’t know how to change his oil.

I started track days last year because of Oppo. I was always scared of track days, and honestly a lot of credit goes to PCA for being awesome, but Oppo helped me get to my first event and explore the hobby in-depth.

I started watching F1 and GT racing last year, not so much because of Oppo but Oppo gave me an outlet to share the sports the same way I used to with Football or Hockey etc. and that feels special.

I drove all the way to Tail of the Dragon last year to meet some of you, and for my co-driver to pick up her new Veloster N on the way down. Amazing driving roads, good company, and an amazing story. Can’t ask for more.

I bought my 99' Miata this year because of Oppo. Another love car, driving it just for fun, ana log fun, slow fun, topless fun. I picked the damn thing up in the middle of a snow storm, crashed it on the highway on the way home, and 9 months later I’m going to start turning it into a track weapon. You guys have so much Miata knowledge to help me with this older car. Driving the Miata just for fun during these covid days, especially during the major shutdown probably kept me sane....ish.

Participated in the Oppo Rally this year, 3rd place! Took me all over my area showing me more places to explore and having some fun doing car things during covid. Again, thank you so much Steve for putting that together.

My biggest issue, is that I’ve been a part of a really amazing community before. A cigar community. I had my reservations but they were the most generous people I’d ever met and completely rewrote my internet experience. When that forum changed significantly and through some personal stuff I’ve lost that community. I’m on the discord, the DT, the Hyphen, the Mastodon.... and I really want to get into the Hyphen and keep up my Oppo-centric life. I look at this site 1 billion times a day. I’ve lost most of my hobbies and am basically only into cars now. This hurts today, to potentially lose this part of my life. I’ll try, I’ll chat, but you guys are amazing and I wish you all the very best no matter what happens.

I definitely bought my first miata because of Oppo. I created my name because I didnt know anything about cars except that my FWD automatic 90s honda was sad and against everything that was cool around here. So I wanted to drink the koolaid and buying a Miata was definitely the right flavor of koolaid for me. I think my second miata is more of a stockholm syndrome effect but at least they are cheap so I am not both addicted and poor.

Fun fact I was also cross shopping Mercury Marauders, Miatas, and Subaru WRXs because of this place. That shouldnt occur to normal people as something to cross shop...

You are well known and we are still the some community over at the hyphen and other platforms. The good part about this change is that it is not due to some schism in the group, but due to a meh landlord.

Yeah I totally understand that, but I find most Oppos at least know and recognize most others Oppos that make semi quality posts at the very least.

I’ve been through board shutdowns before, too, so yeah—yesterday was pretty devastating. Glad to see you’re sticking around, though.
